How it all began
School of Sport was founded in July 2016 by Ryan Harris. Ryan’s journey in sport first began when he took up playing Tennis at the age of 6. He later went on to become the number 1 player in Lancashire as a junior and attended a high-performance Tennis academy in France from age of just 13. Although he harnessed ambitions to make it in the professional game, it didn’t quite work out.
Following a few years at Leeds Metropolitan University and not quite knowing his career path, Ryan decided to become a qualified tennis coach and began working full-time at David Lloyd Trafford.
It was also around this time Ryan got in touch with his former headteacher at Davyhulme Primary School about running an after school tennis club.
After experiencing huge demand for these classes he decided to branch out to other local schools and within 6 months was coaching tennis lessons in 5 local primary schools.
May – Ryan soon realised to keep progressing his business working within schools he needed to leave his role as a full-time tennis coach, this is when School of Sport was born.
January – After previously only providing tennis, Ryan decided to step out of his comfort zone and employ his first member of staff to run an after school basketball club.
Following the success of these sessions, the company went on to provide Gymnastics, Dance, and Football in the months that followed.
April – After experiencing a steep rise in the number of classes being offered Ryan needed someone alongside him to support the increased level of admin that ultimately came with this.
The company employed Ryan’s close friend and former colleague Sophie Wolfendale. After initially coming on board in a part-time gymnastics coach/admin role, Sophie is now employed in a full-time management position and has recently become Ryan’s business partner in setting up our sister brand schoolofplay.org.uk

What does the future look like?
Although the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on our organisation, we used the time sufficiently to reflect on the service we were providing and make improvements for the future.
We plan to reopen our second permanent holiday club venue in Chorlton by early 2021 and our third venue in Sale/Altrincham by May of next year. In addition to this, we hope to be positively impacting over 1000 children per week as part of our extra-curricular programme.
We provide a variety of services to keep your children active!
We offer a wide range of services to help keep your children active and involved in sport, from breakfast & after school clubs, holidays camps & evening & weekend classes.
What We Stand For
“A healthier nation starts with active children”
To inspire the next generation
We know that children are the future; they will be the change-makers, future leaders, and the key to a better and brighter world.
Sometimes all a child needs is an opportunity and we aim to provide that for them with continued support through our sports coaching programme. Finding purpose and building a vision for each child is something of great importance to us and working with them to fulfil their potential is one of the most gratifying parts of our job.
Not only does this allow us to get to know the children as individuals, but it also assists in preparing them for what might lay ahead, in their school and professional lives.
Healthy Lifestyle for All
We support a balanced and healthy lifestyle. We believe fuelling children with the right nutrition and ensuring they take part in some form of exercise every day is key to their performance in the classroom. The driving force behind everything we do is to spread the message of living a healthy lifestyle to as many children as possible. The subject of mental health in young people has never been as prevalent than it is right now and there is a lot of scientific evidence to show the role that exercise and proper nutrition can play in preventing the onset of mental health issues.
Having fun through being active

Ryan and his team ran a multi sports party with a Star Wars theme for my son’s 6th birthday party (complete with a storm trooper!). The children had a great time. Ryan went out of his way to make sure we were happy with everything and it all ran smoothly. Thankyou!Sarah Jerath
